Hi
I'm already on Naproxen. The nausea this week has been much the same as last week, lasting right into Tuesday and then tailing off a bit. I've also had periods where I felt even more wiped out than usual. I will stick with it for now. I bought some ginger tea bags from an Asian shop today. They are filled with granules. I'll try them this weekend. Dreading the weekend as I'm supposed to increase my mxt (or is it mtx??? Confused ) dose by 50% this Friday.
Thanks everyone for your concern. I'm really touched.

Hi Naomi

I am on mtx injections, and only take a 5mg folic acid the day after I do my mtx. It really does vary on consultant I think but I know the more folic acid you take it can stop the effectiveness of the mtx.

You can take antisickness tablets before you have the mtx and the day after which can help with the nausea.

Maybe changing to the injections might help hun. It does cut down the amount of nausea as it bypasses the stomach.

I do hope you get some relief very soon.

Love

I am still suffering with nausea......and my joint pains are getting worse. My nurse wants me to go on injections. She has to clear it with the consultant first. However I keep hearing about a worldwide shortage and it's worrying me. Has anyone else heard of this?

Hi Naomi

I would definently try the mtx injections.

I have been on and off methotrexate injections since 2005 and I have not had any problems with getting the injections. I get them from my hospital pharmacy.

Hi Niomi,

I have been on MTX for almost 4 years now, I was also stopped taking Folic acid 5 days of the week to 24 hours after the MTX dose. My consultant recommended this due to new reaserch about Folic acid. In the beginning I took MTX in the morning, and like you I felt sick and head-achy all day. I now take it after a meal and before I go to bed, now occasionally I can feel tired the next day and sometimes have a headache but not too often.

I hope this settles down for you, it really is a mine field starting all these drugs, but persevere you will get there. Try to be positive and add ginger to lots of things you eat this does help too.

Take care Lorna x Smile

I take mxt at night too. When I first started on mxt 9 years ago, my rheummy nurse said it was better to take it at night because you sleep through any nausea you might have. I have always done this and have never felt sick the day after just a bit more tired than usual. Good luck

I am still suffering with the oral mtx. On the 2nd and 9th November I will be learning to inject myself at the hospital. After that I will be on my own at home with it. I am slightly nervous at the prospect but in the scheme of things I suppose it's not a big deal. thanks for your support on this everyone.

Good luck with the injections Naomi ... it really is easy and you will soon get used to doing it! Hope they prove to be a better option for you. In my early days of taking oral methotrexate, donkeys years ago, I found that any even slightly spicy food would cause problems with the MTX. I stopped everything other than very plain food and alls been well ever since. No nausea, no tiredness, no problems! But perhaps thats just me RollEyes
